Underground electrical service, pole to panel
The excavator is in our yard. So are the bucket trucks.
One company digs the trench, lays the conduit and the cable, sets the meter, makes the terminations and puts the ground back. When something changes in a trench, there is one number to call.
Nothing overhead across the yard, nothing for a tree to take down in an ice storm.

How an underground service works and what it costs
Four steps. One crew.
- 01
You call
Where the power is now, where it has to go.
- 02
We look at the ground
Distance, slope, rock, what is already buried.
- 03
Locates first
Ontario One Call, before anything moves.
- 04
One crew does it
Trench, cable, meter, and the ground put back.
What decides the price
- How far the power travels
- What is in the ground
- What has to be crossed
- The size of the service
- New build or a changeover
- The utility and the permit
A 400 metre trench and a 60 metre trench are not the same job, and we do not price them the same way. We look at the ground first, then you get the number.
“Dunne power from the moment I called was professional, transparent about pricing, fair and provided exceptional work.”
Meggy W.Google review, August 2026
Call 519-373-2543Do you dig the trench yourselves?
We do. The excavator is in our yard, and the crew that opens the ground is the crew that makes the terminations. That is how a 60 metre trench and a brand-new 200 amp underground service went in at Sauble Beach in a single day.
Can you do the pole too?
Yes. Tyler Auger is a Master Electrician and a Power Line Technician, so we can work on the pole and not just at the bottom of it. We set new poles, replace rotted or leaning ones, and look after customer-owned line.
Who owns the pole between the road and my house?
Hydro One’s Conditions of Service says power lines, poles and other equipment on your property supplying only your home or business are owned by you, and so is the meter base. So a pole on your property that only feeds your place is usually yours to maintain and replace. The pole at the road that feeds the whole street is not. Your own situation can differ, so ask us when you call.
Do I need a locate before anyone digs?
Yes, and it is free. Ontario One Call says to request a locate at least 5 business days before you dig, on public or private property. It does not cover private lines on your own land, so a septic bed, a well line, a pool heater line or a buried camera line needs a private locator. On a rural property that is the one that catches people.
What does an underground service cost?
It depends on how far the power has to travel, what is in the ground, what has to be crossed, the size of the service, and whether it is a new build or a changeover. We look at the ground first, then you get the number. Call 519-373-2543 and tell us where the power is now and where it has to end up.
A tree took my line down. What now?
Call 519-373-2543. Do not fill in the form. Downed power line, stay 10 metres back and call 911. Fire or smoke, call 911 first.
